Tong Kee's Egg Tart 棠记兄弟饼家

I still remember the stall selling Tong Kee's Egg Tart in front of Lai Foong, Jalan Tun H.S.Lee, that’s the place I used to stop by after a tuition class to help myself to some lovely Tong Kee's Egg Tarts. Today, Tong Kee’s outlet is like mushroom growth, opens one after another. Not only that, the price has also been raised from less than RM 1 to RM1.30 per piece. Even then, it has never left me off visiting it simply because of its unbeatable wobbly egg filling and the lardy puff pastry which is so flaky that scarcely be found elsewhere. The outlet in Sri Petaling is the most convenient one for me. Other than the original lardy version, Tong Kee also pays heed to health conscious consumers by introducing the buttery version which I think is less sellable. Apart from the main stream, Tong Kee is also getting fair orders for festive cookies, wedding pastry (嫁女饼) and Moon Cake.Brother in law has teeth for this Twister (RM4.50) that resembles a “rope”. Its crunchy texture is pretty much tastier than those ultra-hard sugar coated type which you may find in Pasar Malam (Night Market). There are some customers just like us, love to relish the hot steamy tarts delivered straight from kitchen in this comfy red couch. ;-)(HQ) Tel: 03-2142 9958

Claypot Chicken Rice Opposite to Alisan 大城堡阿里山对面的瓦煲鸡饭

I would be surprised if any resident of Sri Petaling tells me that he or she doesn't know the claypot chicken rice opposite to Restoran Alisan (阿里山). When I have a crave for claypot chicken rice, this is the place I get the fix. Owned by an Indonesian couple, the business hour is 11am to night, close every Tues. Withnessing their business expanded bigger and bigger, workers increased one after another, deligence is definitely an important criteria to make one a successful entrepreneur. From my observation, they operate the business systematically whereby wife who speaks impeccable Cantonese is in charge of marketing and socializing with customers while husband concentrates on production.

Saw the BOSS flipping the lids agilely to check the water content (just to ensure the rice is cooked properly), made me to ponder how many times he had his fingers scalded just to train himself up for this skill!? How many claypots !!?? 1...2..3..4... Ala.laaa...I can't tell coz already lost count..... There are only 2 sizes of claypot rice, Big (RM9.00) and Small (RM4.50). Tangy aroma of Shaoxing wine pervaded when the claypot served to us. A close up shot. Laden with copious Chinese waxed sausage, salted fish (ikan masin), spring onion and chicken thigh in bite size. The flaky slightly scorched rice debris that sticks on the claypot is something I could never resist....Deep fried crispy sweet and sour ikan kampung(RM3) topped with handful chopped shallot & chilli is certainly another MUST ORDER from me. Stewed radish soup (RM3). 1 big pot+1 small pot+ 2 sweet & sour kaumpung fish+soup =RM22.50. I think it's reasonable for KL standard. Stack of claypots is an envidence of good business. ;-) The address!!!??? I have no idea about the address, all I know, the restoran is just opposite to Restoran Alisan ( same row as Dai Ka Seng Gai Wor Bao 大家成鸡窝包). Just ask around, I believe any local who is familiar with Sri Petaling will be able to guide you.

Dai Ka Seng Dim Sum 大家成点心茶楼

Not until the megazine wrote a review about the signature Gai Wor Bao (鸡窝包) of Dai Ka Seng(大家成),we wouldn't have come up the thought of buying one. That's what we call the power of media. The Gai Wor Bao 鸡窝包 (RM4.80) placed right in front of us looks identical with the one shown in megazine. The gravy oozing out from the bun looks mesmersing, indeed..... Such a sinful temptation that filled with Char Siu (BBQ pork), salted egg yolk, mushroom, stewed chicken cube, onion and glutinuous rice.

It's more like a combination of Dai Bao (大包) and Lo Mai Gai (糯米鸡),heaps of big onion makes it taste a little sweetish, it looks luscious with the existence of salted egg yolk.

This the Golden Bun (黄金包 RM1.40) . "Golden" refers to its custard filling. This unique mix of yeast and baking powder gives the dough a soft, fluffy, and cake-like texture, the slightly saltish sweet custard filling savored marvellous with this lovely dough. This Golden Bun wins the vote of Moon.Wor Zai Bao (窝仔包 RM1.40), the exterior looks almost similar to Golden bun except the filling that made of Char Siu. We also tried the steamed sparerib and Siu Mai, apart from the baoz, so far dim sum is nothing to shout about.

I do believe these baoz generate spetacular profit margin for the inventor. Innovative is certainly a crucial element to sustain one's business in the competative dim sum industry, do stop by for a bite if happen you pass by this place.;-)
